Wonderful Indian Bargain Buffet
I had read several good reviews about Chutnys (this spelling is correct - no apostrophe or 'e'), so I decided to give it a try for lunch. I wanted to try their buffet, not only because it is a phenomenal bargain, but also to sample a wide range of assortment of dishes. I was very impressed - this is some of the best Indian in Columbus.
Chutnys is located in a bit of a restaurant death zone up on Campusview Blvd. in Worthington. Looks like several places have come and gone in this area, which frankly is a little off-pitch. It's in a little strip center, way back off of High St., but with easy access to High and 270..
Inside, the place is nice enough - booths along the window, white tablecloths on the tables, relatively new and well maintained. Nothing especially thematic about the place, just nicely appointed.
I was greeted immediately by a young man who offered me a prime seat up front. He brought ice water, and some delicious naan, and then I was on my way to the buffet.
Like any good lucnh buffet, there was a lot to choose from. Most favorites were there, like Chicken Biryani, Tandoori Murg (BBQ chicken), cut murchi, but also some other things like a great tasting goat dish, more rice dishes, and some soups like Sambar. There were several curries/sauces, including tamarind and really hot one I can't pronounce, spell, or forget.
Each dish was awesome - I mean, REALLY good. The BBQ chicken was great, the Biryani excellent, there was a veggie dish that was really good with lots of spices and flavors, especially onion, and the goat was well-flavored and excellent. But my personal favorite was the Chicken 555, which is sort of like an Indian version of General Tso's Chicken.
Self service drinks are included with this great spread, all for $7.42. Definitely one of the best Cheat Eats in Columbus, not only for the all-in price but the food quality. Worth a drive to check this place out.
