Super Cheap, Really Good
Coco's is a Chinese fast food joint down near campus. Actually, they also serve Thai and Japanese food also, and all of it can be had for remarkably little especially at lunch.
Coco's serves all of your favorite Chinese dishes, ranging from General Tso's, Sesame Chicken, Sweet and Sour Chicken, Kung Pao, Cashew Chicken, fried rices, and Lo mein. They also sell a serviceable Pad Thai, spicy Singapore Noodles, along with Japanese favorites like Tonkatsu and Sukiyaki, and even some Korean items like kimchee with pork, and Bulgogi.
For lunch this summer, they had a "summer portion" menu which offered an entree, along with about a half a pound of fried or white rice. If it was a one-half portion, I'd hate to see the full sized one. You get both for $3.95.
So I ordered an order of hot and sour soup, the General Tso's Chicken, with fried rice, and the spicy mala green beans, with fried rice. it was enough food to easily serve 2, maybe 3 people. the whole bill was a little over $9! The rice didn't have much in it except browned rice, but both the General Tso's and the mala string beans were excellent. But the big surprise was the hot and sour soup - really hot and spicy, with lots of tofu and mushrooms. some of the best in the city.
This ain't health food - every thing was either fried or a little oily. But the flavor was great, service was prompt, and I can't imagine getting more food for your dollar anywhere. Great Cheap Eats!
