A slice of history, a heaping helping of creativity, and one blazing hot 7-foot grill, and you’ve got all the ingredients for one of the world’s most original eating experiences! Centuries ago in Mongolia, Kublai Khan’s hunting parties communed banquet-style to celebrate the day’s successes. They’d slice meats and vegetables with their swords and sear the food on overturned shields above a huge, blazing fire. That ancient tradition inspired bd’s create-your-own stir-fry concept. Plus, you don’t have to hunt any further than the buffet! Choose meats, seafood, vegetables, salads, sauces and spices. Then watch as master grillers prepare your custom creation on a 600° 7-foot grill.

Mongolian Barbecues are a little hokey, I agree. Very interesting the first time you try them, but after the novelty of the concept wears off, it's sorta "been there, done that". Not so with BD's.

A mongolian barbecue starts with you assembling a bowl of goodies - veggies of your choosing, a protein like chicken or beef or shrimp, and then adding a sauce for flavor. You then transport your creation over to a giant communal teppayaki grill, where they cook the whole thing for you while you watch. Your meal generally comes with a mountain of rice, salad and drink.

It is hard to offer a recommendation of what to put together, but the range of choices at BD's is astounding. You could eat a different tasting meal there every day if you want. I usually go with chicken with traditional stir fry veggies (onion, mushrooms, carrots, peppers, etc.) with a teriyaki or soy -based sauce. It's all good, and hard to mess up.

This is a fun concept if you are with a large group. It's sort of like a food court - everyone can order what they want, but still eat together. I like the Arena District BD's alittle better than this, but mostly for the memories. It's a chain, so the food all tastes the same.
