Suburban Grandview Greasy Spoon
I've driven past this place a hundred times, and finally stopped in for breakfast. I have friends who run every Saturday morning and then go there for donuts. But I'd never been in, and it's my mistake. What a treat!
This is an old-style diner, a true greasy spoon(meant in the most affectionate way), with unpretentious homemade food, fast friendly service, and huge crew of regulars that fill the place.
It's in an odd location, deep in a neighborhood of suburban Grandview. How'd they get that zoning? Blink and you'll miss it.
Inside, it's a little spartan, with booths along one side and tables in the middle. They have outdoor seating as well, and a small service counter with seats for maybe 6 people. It overlooks the cook, which is my favorite place to be in a diner. He is a real professional, a star, a machine, and fun to watch.
I was there for breakfast, and it's hard to spend more than $6 for one. I chose the scramble, with ham, onion, and eggs, fried potatoes and toast - $5. I just drank water, but if you want something else, just go over to the rehydration station and fix your own - they'll add it to your bill.
They have huge case of donuts as you come in, and I understand that they are really something.
Simple and delicious. Worth a trip.
