Samll Plates With Wine Pairings
The Burgundy Room pioneered the tapas and wine tasting phenomenon in the Short North. The food can be a little inconsistent in taste quality, dish by dish, but they always have a great assortment of small plates, and an extensive list of good wines to try.
Just because they offer small plates or so-called tapas doesn't mean the menu is Spanish, because most of it is not. It's more like comfort food. They offer salads, tacos, calamari, falafel crab cakes, fried fish, P.E.I. Mussels, in addition to some full plate items like a cheeseburger or fried chicken.
Fresh, homemade, and locally grown ingredients form the backbone of their menu.
Some people complain that the dishes and wines are a little pricey, given portion sizes, but you are paying for the prime Short North location. If you order the "wine tastes" that are suggested with each tapa, rarely will that taste cost more than $4.
This is a very cozy and comfortable spot, especially in the winter if you can get a seat near the fireplace. While they have an open ceiling which exposes everything, it is otherwise very attractive and warm and even romantic.
These aren't the best tapas I've ever had, but better than expected, and superior to many other small plate offerings in Columbus.
