Pricey Northern Italian Steakhouse
Davio's is a Northen Italian steakhouse with three locations; this one is a little off-pitch, between Back Bay and Chinatown.
Davio's serves outstanding steaks, pastas, risottos, and some equally wonderful cocktails and wine. A Bombay Saphire Martini up with olives should taste the same anywhere, but they are better here. The bone in rib eye is a monster and family favorite. My daughter loves their pastas.
All of their breads and desserts are made in house. One of their dishes, the signature Philly Steak Roll, is the feature picture for this entry, and is distributed outside of the restaurant now in fine grocers around their restaurants.
This is a big place, cavernous really, and they pack their patrons in. The mahogany bar, the beautifully set tables, and the beautiful people crowd always make for a romantic and elegant evening. It's a beautiful space, but it can get a little noisy when crowded.
Davio's menu is extensive, and very pricey. The food is really good, but crab cake appetizers for $15? A caprese salad for $15? Pan roasted lobster for $46? That's a little strong. You can get a deal however by using the bar menu, which is basically an accumulation of all of the low ticket items, and a comparative bargain.
We have had good waiters and bad at Davios. All seem to be long timers, are very professional, and knowledgeable, including wine. One in particular, however, is extremely arrogant, and has driven more than one of our guests up the wall.
So if you are out on the town for a very special occasion, or hopefully on expense account, or just got your bonus check or inheritance windfall, give Davio's a try.
